On 16-17 November, ALDE Party member Venstre held a party Congress (Landsmøde) in Herning, Denmark.
Over 1,200 members attended the two-day event as Denmark’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen was re-elected party leader, with Minister of Economic Affairs Stephanie Lose confirmed as deputy leader.
Ahead of local and regional elections in November next year, Poulsen warned the country will have to increase its security and defence spending to fall in line with NATO requirements and protect itself from natural disasters such as recent floods hitting the cities of Esbjerg and Vejle.

“We are ready to find the money, and we are ready to protect Denmark and Danes from climate change. As leader of Venstre, the bulwark that protects Denmark, I am ready to take the lead in this,” said Lund Poulsen.
“While Venstre has been in government, Denmark has become richer, growth has increased, inflation has slowed down, and more Danes have found jobs. But there's no getting round the fact that we need to do more if we are to be able to afford to look after Denmark in the future.”
