On Saturday 21 September, Venstre in Denmark held an extraordinary congress to elect a new leader. Jakob Ellemann-Jensen was unanimously elected to take over the leadership of the party.
A member of parliament since 2011 and Minister for Environment and Food from 2018 to 2019, Ellemann-Jensen highlighted the importance of cooperation in his speech after the election: “Today, the hard work to show the Danes that Venstre is their party begins, and I count on you.”
“I am very much looking forward to leading this proud old party and to showing the Danes that Venstre has what it takes to move Denmark in the right direction.”
In this new step of his political career, Ellemann-Jensen continues the legacy of his father Uffe Ellemann-Jensen, who was the President of the European Liberals Party (the current ALDE Party) from 1995 to 2000 and Venstre leader from 1984 to 1998.
