This week, Christophe Wiederkehr (NEOS) took the office of Deputy Mayor, following last month’s local elections. This makes Vienna the 13th capital government in the EU governed by liberals.

In his role, Wiederkehr will be in charge of education, youth, integration and transparency in Vienna’s first ever red-pink coalition.

In 2017, Wiederkehr took part in the Young Elected Local Liberal Leaders programme organised by the Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions. The YELL programme was created to provide an opportunity for young liberal democrat local and regional politicians to meet and share ideas and best practice amongst themselves, and afterwards to meet with experienced local and regional politicians in a joint meeting with Renew Europe.
