On 13 June, Dutch ALDE member VVD hosted its first-ever digital festival, VVD Live, broadcast through the party’s social media channels.
This live event welcomed many prominent politicians, such as Dutch Prime Minister and party leader Mark Rutte, group leader of the party in the Dutch Parliament, Klaas Dijkhoff, party President Christianne van der Wal and Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate, Eric Wiebes.
The key topic under discussion was the COVID-19 crisis and its consequences. Prime Minister Rutte and Klaas Dijkhoff answered questions on this topic from citizens during a live Q&A session, while Minister Wiebes explained the different stages of the Dutch administration, including investing wisely in innovation and smart growth to overcome the crisis.
To prevent a second wave of the pandemic, Prime Minister Rutte stated that it also requires working together and having citizens help in the fight against the virus:
“I’m optimistic about the Netherlands and Dutch citizens are very resilient. But I cannot guarantee that the virus will not pop up again… As cabinet we cannot beat the virus alone, we need to do this together. If everyone helps along, we can do this.”
