VVD turn 70 years old

Today our Dutch member party VVD turn 70 years old.

On a Saturday afternoon on 24 January 1948 in a crowded Bellevue in Amsterdam VVD saw the light. The VVD originated from the merger of the Party of Freedom (PvdV) and the Comité Oud, which consisted of dissatisfied members of the left-liberal Liberal Democratic Alliance (VDB), which in 1946 had merged with the Social Democratic Workers' Party (SDAP) and some other political groups in the Labor Party (PvdA).

"Liberalism is the way to progress" was already the party's slogan from their foundational meeting.

From that day VVD has evolved until what it is today: the largest political party in the Netherlands under the leadership of Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

In order to launch the celebrations of their anniversary, VVD has published a digital archive compiling the history of the party. Check it out here and see the best pictures, political posters and more from 1948 to the present.
