On 12-13 September, 19 young local politicians from 13 different European countries participated in the Young Elected Local Leaders (YELL) Summit in Brussels.
The event was co-organised with Renew Europe, LYMEC and Young Democrats for Europe, and chaired by Dovydas Kaminskas, Mayor of Tauragė, Lithuania.
Participants discussed their expectations of the new European mandate, shared their political priorities for the future and focused on innovative approaches to tackling local challenges.
Local leaders engaged in a lively discussion with ALDE Party and Renew Europe Vice-President Dan Barna MEP calling for a more equitable Europe, the need to continue tackling climate change and the will for greater involvement of young people in European politics and cohesion.
“The younger generation of politicians are an inspiration, and the passion of these local elected officials for the idea of ‘community’ is infectious,” said Barna.
Ahead of the Summit, ALDE Party welcomed participants to our headquarters for a session with Secretary General Didrik de Schaetzen and LYMEC Secretary General Bàlint Gyévai.
