Moldova’s European journey received another boost as the European Parliament backed the country’s continued progress on reforms and integration.

Liberals welcomed the vote on the European Commission’s 2025 report, highlighting Moldova’s growing role in strengthening Europe’s stability and security amid ongoing Russian interference and hybrid threats.

The group stressed that continued EU support must go hand in hand with meaningful reforms, ensuring that the benefits of accession are felt by Moldovan citizens and that trust in the process remains strong.

ALDE Party Vice-President Dan Barna MEP (USR, RO), Renew Europe shadow rapporteur on the 2025 Commission report on Moldova commented after the vote:

"The Republic of Moldova is advancing rapidly and resolutely toward EU membership. I commend the extraordinary resilience of Moldovan citizens who have successfully defended their democracy against unprecedented hybrid threats, disinformation, and Kremlin interference.
Moldova is no longer just a beneficiary; it is already an active contributor to our continent's security. It is our responsibility to drop any formal excuses and stand by Chișinău at every step. Moldova’s rightful place is here, in our European family."

Beyond the political message, the report also highlights concrete advances in Moldova’s reform journey, including judicial reform and anti-corruption efforts. Their long-term impact will depend on strong institutions and effective implementation.

“Chișinău’s progress and reforms are remarkable, evidenced by the recent opening of negotiations on fundamental values, their integration into the European roaming and payment areas, and the €1.9 billion Economic Growth Plan.” Barna added.

The vote follows the historic opening of the first accession negotiation chapters announced in June. Liberals stressed that Moldova’s achievements should be recognised and supported through a fair, merit-based accession process.
