The annual UN Climate Conference convenes in Brazil this year from 10-21 November 2025 to accelerate climate action.
It is the world's only multilateral decision-making forum on climate change and brings together almost every country to fight for climate justice. This year, ALDE Party is represented by liberals at several different levels of government, notably Romanian Minister of Environment Diana Anda Buzoianu, Emma Wiesner MEP (Centerpartiet, SE) and Brigitte van den Berg MEP (D66, NL), among others.
Joined by climate experts, representatives join a packed agenda full of negotiations and opportunities for climate action. Each delegation has its own pavilion there where crucial seminars, workshops and speeches take place.
Crucial negotiations are happening to ensure strong multilateral cooperation and implementation of the Paris agreement. Europe must lead as a global climate superpower that sets ambitious targets and steers the clean-tech race.
For liberals, staying committed to climate action ensures competitiveness in the global economy and for security. Reducing dependencies on fossil fuels, creating jobs in emerging industries and producing clean and affordable energy is essential for unlocking European potential.
Europe must invest in the technologies of the future to foster economic strength, energy security and long-term prosperity amid global competition. Liberals must also lead bravely to protect people from worsening climate disasters.
The importance of this climate summit cannot be overstated, given the pertinence of global warming and climate change. Liberals are working to deliver concrete results, meeting with delegations, governments, activists and stakeholders from across the world.
The EU has a strongly unified position at this year’s COP30. This comes after the European Parliament voted to approve a science-based 2040 climate target and a binding target to cut Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions by 90 % by 2040.
