After completing a Master’s degree in Information Systems Analysis at Mid Sweden University and Stockholm University, Abir Al-Sahlani became a political adviser on foreign affairs to the Swedish Centre Party (Centerpartiet) in 2007.
In 2011, she was elected as Member of the Swedish Parliament, moving to a Project manager role within Centerpartiet in 2015. In 2019, she was elected again as a Member of the Swedish Parliament but left her seat after being elected as a Member of the European Parliament for Centerpartiet.
In the European Parliament, she became Vice-Chair of Renew Europe and a full member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, as well as Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with Iraq.
Outside of the European Parliament, she is a member of Centerpartiet's Executive Board and Vice-President of Liberal International.
