Anna-Maja Henriksson sat in the Finnish Parliament for over 17 years, including almost nine years as a minister and eight years as the chair of the Swedish People's Party.
In January 1987, she graduated with a Master of Laws degree from the University of Helsinki and shortly thereafter was offered a permanent job as a bank lawyer at Pedersörenejdens Andelsbank.
In 1996, she was elected to the town council in Jakobstad as a representative of the Swedish People's Party. Four years later, she was elected chair of the city board. A position she held for eight years and later served another 2 1/2 years as chair of the council. Between 2003 and 2004, Henriksson worked at the Ministry of Finance as a Special Adviser to Minister of Finances.
In 2007 she was elected to the Finnish Parliament. During this parliamentary term, she served as the vice-chair of the Legal Affairs Committee and as a member of the Employment and Equality Committee. Outside Parliament, Henriksson served as the Chair of the Swedish Parliament of Finland from 2009 to 2011. In 2010, she was also elected vice-chair of the Swedish People's Party. In his second national election in 2011, Henriksson received the third highest number of votes in the constituency of Vaasa. She was appointed Minister of Justice in June 2011. In addition to his position as Minister of Justice, Henriksson also served as Minister of Åland from 2011 to 2015.
In 2015, Henriksson was elected to Parliament for a third term, during which time she was also elected Chair of the Swedish Parliamentary Group. In the spring of 2016, she was elected chair of the Swedish People's Party.
In the 2019 Parliamentary elections, Henriksson received the ninth most votes of all the candidates in Finland and was subsequently appointed Minister of Justice in Rinne's Government. After Rinne's resignation in December 2019, Henriksson continued as Minister of Justice in Marin's Government. Minister of Justice Henriksson also served as Minister of Åland from 2019 to 2022. After the 2023 parliamentary election, Henriksson was nominated as Finland's Minister of Education.
