Asger Christensen has been a member of the city council in Kolding Municipality since 2014. He was first elected in the municipal elections in 2013 with 640 personal votes, and re-elected in 2017 with 597 personal votes.
He ran in the 2014 European Parliament elections in third place on Venstre's list of candidates, receiving 14,709 personal votes. In 2019, he was finally elected with 31,303 personal votes. He serves on the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development. In 2020, he also joined the Committee of Inquiry on the Protection of Animals during Transport.
In addition to his committee assignments, Christensen is part of the parliament's delegation for relations with China. He is also a member of the European Parliament Intergroup on LGBT Rights.
Christensen is also chair of Lejrskov-Jordrup Parish Council. He is a farm owner and runs a farm of 400 hectares with a herd of 650 cows.
