On 31 August, András Rózsa was elected as the new President of Momentum Mozgalom at a party Congress in Budapest, Hungary.

Rózsa, serving as the Mayor of Budapest's 14th district Zugló since 2024, succeeds Márton Tompos as party leader until the country’s next parliamentary elections scheduled to be held in April 2026.

Momentum has been working for eight years “to remove [Viktor Orban’s] Fidesz, which is ruining the country, from power”, Rózsa said in his first statement as President. To this aim, Momentum has decided not to contest the 2026 Parliamentary elections to increase the odds of opposition votes defeating Fidesz.

“Over the next year, I will work to bring about a change of government […] but we also know that this only makes sense if it is followed by an immediate change of system. Over the past eight years, Momentum has been most successful when fighting outside of parliament. Our activists are threatened with prison, and our representatives have been banned from Parliament because of our street protests in spring. After April 2026, we will continue to represent the issues that are important to us from outside Parliament to build a country where all Hungarians can find prosperity,” said Rózsa.

Rózsa added that Momentum will conduct an anti-government campaign targeting the most Fidesz-supporting communities spreading the message of change to swing districts which votes could prove decisive in April.

"We are also declaring war on Fidesz's biggest weapon, propaganda. We are exposing how their propagandists have been lying to us for 16 years with the tax money we have paid. Let everyone know that the propagandists of Megafon and the Fidesz court have enriched themselves with our money, while feeding us lies and hatred,” he concluded.
