On 13 September, ALDE Party member Open VLD held a “Festival of Ideas”, hosting party members and partners to listen to new ideas, challenge each other and gather new momentum for the future of the party.

Around 1,000 participants attended the event in Vilvoorde, Belgium, including experts in fields such as science, education, energy, justice, health, defence, law, business and music.

ALDE Party Secretary General Didrik de Schaetzen took part in a panel debate entitled “Europe: Eat or be eaten?”, which delved into the EU's standing on the world political stage and the steps that the EU must take to be a respected player and ensure its own survival in the long term.

The festival also marked the farewell of chair Eva De Bleeker, who initiated the party’s renewal and looked ahead to a new trajectory which will continue with the election of a new party chair in October.
