On 11 September, the European Parliament adopted a report by Anna-Maja Henriksson MEP (SFP, FI) on streamlining EU internal market rules, which will help maintain the momentum for a stronger single market as per the Draghi report.
The report calls for:
- Streamlined rules
- Better implementation and robust enforcement for a predictable and competitive business environment
- Unlocking the full potential of the single market
- Embracing digitalisation and artificial intelligence for growth and governance
- Improving consumer protection in the digital age
“Strengthening the single market is the only way to boost the EU’s competitiveness and global influence. Take the EU-US deal: we are horrified to be hit with a 15% tariff. But the International Monetary Fund has estimated that internal market barriers in the EU are equivalent to a 45% tariff on manufacturing and a 110% tariff on services. If we take down those barriers, we’ll be richer, stronger, more prosperous and more influential. Good ideas and clever proposals must be turned into actions now,” said Henriksson.
