On 20 May, liberal Defence Ministers met to coordinate ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) meeting in Brussels.
Ministers discussed Europe’s response to Russia’s ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as the most pressing security and defence challenges Europe is facing.
They underlined the need for continued unity and cooperation among European leaders to strengthen our collective security, as well as uphold support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and freedom.

- Hanno Pevkur, Minister of Defence of Estonia (Reformierakond, EE)
- Dan Barna MEP, Vice-President, ALDE Party (USR, RO) - Chair
The meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm liberals’ shared commitment to European values and to highlight liberal leadership on defence at a time when unity and resolve are more important than ever.
