Europe is currently confronted with difficult choices on all fronts. Economic pressures are mounting, security threats are growing and its place in a changing world is far from certain. The decisions made now will help shape the continent’s future.

On 15-16 October, EU leaders will meet in Brussels for a European Council (EUCO) meeting to discuss the challenges ahead, including competitiveness, Ukraine, migration and the realities of the EU’s next long-term budget.

Ahead of those discussions, expect to see Taoiseach Micheál Martin (Fianna Fáil, IE), Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten (D66, NL), Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal (Eesti Reformierakond, EE) as well as all the liberal party leaders come together in Brussels for the Renew Europe Leaders’ Summit on 15 October, at the Palais d’Egmont.

The summit will give liberal leaders an opportunity to exchange views and build a shared sense of direction as Europe prepares to make decisions with lasting consequences for its citizens.

Renew Europe Leaders' Summit 2025

For liberals, this means more than reacting to the latest crisis. It means offering a positive vision for Europe’s future, standing up for democratic values and showing that complex challenges deserve better than the easy answers offered by populists and extremists.

The summit will bring leaders together to discuss the economy, security and defence, EU reform, liberties and equalities. Workshops will also explore strategy, communication and how liberals can make their values resonate with people across Europe.

With so much at stake, the summit is an opportunity to turn shared liberal principles into a common political direction, and to make the case for a Europe that is ready to meet the challenges ahead.

After last year's Renew Europe Leaders' Summit produced a declaration "Freedom on the Offensive," it will be interesting to see what this week's meeting has in store.
