Simona Mohamsson was re-elected as party leader during this year’s Congress having already been leader since June this year.
The Alliance Of Her alumna is making tracks at just 30-year-old, and gave an impassioned speech to delegates declaring that the party will go into the next election as “Sweden’s school party.” She also spoke on education reform:
“Teachers should be treated with respect. And they should be given time to devote to the most important thing for students: teaching. So far, we have managed to deliver. Freedom grows when more children can count. And when more children can count, we show that anyone who wants to put school first can count on the Liberals.”
ALDE Party member Liberalerna’s annual Congress took place from 21-23 November in Karlstad, Sweden.
A new party board was elected, which includes the ministers Lotta Edholm and now second deputy chair Johan Britz. It was strengthened with seven new members out of a total of twenty-one.
Hundreds of liberals from across Sweden gathered to debate and make decisions about new liberal policies that will take Sweden forward. Across the weekend, five reports from the party board and over 700 motions from committed members were discussed.
Ahead of the next elections in 2026, Liberalerna is calling for a continuation of the current government agreement and reject a government including the Social Democrats.
The Congress discussed a bold liberal agenda: from education reforms, unwavering support for Ukraine, to a renewed push to adopt the Euro and bolstering EU competitiveness. Delegates advanced minority protections, digital and sexual rights and reinforced reproductive freedoms.
The congress adopted a headline election promise of a maximum of 20 students per teacher, aiming for smaller classes, more teacher time per pupil, stronger learning outcomes and improved classroom calm.
The party’s core message was that education will be the centre of the campaign and Liberalerna intends to remain in government to deliver reforms.
