On 26 May, liberal Ministers responsible for agriculture and fisheries met for a bilateral exchange ahead of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH) in Brussels.

Anne-Catherine Dalcq, Minister of Agriculture of the Walloon Region (MR, Belgium), and Timmy Dooley, Minister of State with responsibility for Fisheries and the Marine (Fianna Fáil, Ireland), discussed key priorities including the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the upcoming EU budget and support for Europe’s farmers.

They underlined the importance of a clear and strong EU budget to ensure food security, reinforce the resilience of Europe’s agriculture sector and maintain the EU’s ability to respond to global shocks such as Russia’s war in Ukraine and increasing trade tensions.

They also exchanged national best practices to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in farming and fisheries, reinforcing the liberal commitment to a sustainable and forward-looking agriculture policy.
