The grand opening of the Liberal House took place in Brussels on 4 November, marking a new chapter for European liberalism.
The new home for European liberalism brings together ALDE Party, the European Liberal Forum, Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom Europe and LYMEC - European Liberal Youth under one roof.
The evening allowed members and guests from across the liberal movement to network and celebrate together. Leaders from the four liberal organisations addressed attendees during the opening ceremony.
From FNF, Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Paqué kicked the event off, talking about the symbolism of the liberal house:
“It should send a signal beyond Brussels that liberals stand together at the same address. It is more than a building; it is a workshop of freedom where ideas move faster than bureaucracy.”
ALDE Party President Svenja Hahn MEP followed, speaking on the beginnings of the liberal house in 2014 and the importance of togetherness:
“What is really important is the message. When times are tough, liberals stick together and learn from each other. We want to make liberalism and Europe grow.”
The President of ELF, Jan-Christoph Oetjen MEP, agreed that the liberal house offered a way to deepen the conversation about the liberal narrative and start conversations. Finally, LYMEC President, Ines Holzegger MP concluded the speeches by focusing on liberal optimism:
“Together with all four organisations in the same house, all of our sparks can lead to a big bonfire.”
A ribbon-cutting ceremony symbolised the launch of the new Liberal House, followed by an interactive reception and open house across three floors.
Guests explored a reading corner, participated in a photobooth and game space and joined a liberal quiz, all designed to celebrate liberal ideas and foster connections.
