ALDE Party’s Danish member party Moderaterne gathered in Aarhus last weekend for their annual Congress, bringing together hundreds of delegates ahead of Denmark’s general election on 24 March.

Lars Løkke Rasmussen was re-elected as the party’s leader at this year’s annual meeting. As party leader since he co-founded the party in 2022, there were no opposing candidates.

The meeting’s highlights included the presentation of the new political talent team and recognition of recent graduates, reflecting the party’s commitment to the next generation of Danish liberal leaders.

A key moment came with the election of the Executive Board, welcoming Andreas Raben, Kirstine van Sabben, Gitte Møller Højlund, Sarah Fourian and Bergur Løkke Rasmussen, who will guide Moderaterne into the upcoming general election.

Next came the Enthusiast of the Year award, which highlights the extraordinary volunteer efforts of party members. This year’s award was given to Jon Skålerud, who commented on receiving the award:

"You stand up where you are needed. Not to get the credit, but to make things happen.”

In his address to Congress, Løkke Rasmussen focused on key campaign issues, including pension reform and wealth taxation, calling for unity and political courage in uncertain times:

“I am ready to fight for everything that I hold dear to. At any cost. Politics is not waiting for a way to appear, it is to take responsibility for the fact that there is a way. Just do it. Whether it’s 100 steps or 10,000 steps. Yes, we are living in difficult times, but it’s important to keep your head cool and your heart warm!”

Stina Bosse MEP (Moderaterne, DK) spoke about European unity for Denmark’s future:

“I am sure that Denmark needs a direction where we unite, when others try to divide us. A strong Europe is absolutely crucial for Denmark to do well; not just tomorrow, but also the day after tomorrow, and when we pass the country on to the next generations.”

While acknowledging global challenges, the Congress framed Moderaterne as a centrist force capable of delivering long-term solutions rather than short-term media-friendly policies.

With the general election scheduled for 24 March, delegates left Aarhus energised for the campaign and determined to strengthen the party’s voice in Danish politics.
