Renew Europe welcomed the European Parliament’s endorsement of Bulgaria’s accession to the eurozone as a historic and transformative moment.

In a Plenary vote on 8 July, MEPs overwhelmingly adopted a report confirming Bulgaria fulfils the criteria for adopting the euro, paving the way for the country to become the 21st member of the eurozone as of 1 January 2026.

“This is a symbolic day for Bulgaria. Eurozone membership carries both political and economic weight. It offers a major opportunity, and it is our responsibility to make the most of it,” said Nikola Minchev MEP (We Continue The Change, BG).
“I am confident that Bulgaria’s successful accession to the eurozone will open new prospects and further embed the country at the heart of the European Union,” said former ALDE Party co-President Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP.

Bulgaria’s readiness to adopt the euro reflects the EU’s continued cohesion and the euro’s role as a symbol of stability and unity.

The move is expected to bring greater macroeconomic stability, enhance investor confidence, and facilitate trade, travel, and business within the euro area.

Renew Europe commends Bulgaria for having made substantial progress towards economic convergence criteria and congratulates the Bulgarian people and institutions for their sustained commitment to fiscal discipline, reforms and European values.
