On 16 June, the Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) adopted its political priorities for the 2025-2030 mandate.

Liberal and democrat subnational leaders committed to empower local and regional authorities as key players in shaping Europe’s future by helping EU legislators have a better understanding of how the Union is functioning on the ground.

Subnational governments implement two-thirds of EU legislation and contribute half of all public investment in the EU.

Renew Europe CoR’s vision focuses on three core pillars:

  • A Prosperous and Competitive Europe – championing innovation, supporting SMEs, accelerating the green transition, promoting digital and AI-ready skills, and ensuring rural vitality through fair agricultural policies and smart infrastructure
  • A Strong and Secure Europe – building resilient infrastructure, strengthening civil preparedness, defending democracy and safeguarding EU values and citizens in a rapidly evolving global landscape
  • A Democratic Union of Rights and Responsibilities – upholding cohesion, tackling demographic challenges, supporting affordable housing, leading on inclusion and equality, driving effective enlargement and supporting Ukraine’s accession and reconstruction.

In the new mandate, subnational leaders will continue to act as bridges between EU institutions and local and regional realities, ensuring that EU policies are responsive to the needs of communities across Europe.

With these priorities, Renew Europe CoR leaders commit to work relentlessly to bring Europe closer to its citizens, and ensure that no region or community is left behind.
