On 14-15 June, ALDE Party member SFP in Finland gathered for a party Congress where Anders Adlercreutz was confirmed as party leader.

In his keynote speech, the SFP chair and Finland’s Minister of Education emphasised SFP’s goal to reach out to a wider section of the Finnish electorate and the need to establish a constitutional court in Finland.

“When politics becomes an emotional battle instead of a rational dialogue, we lose the ability to compromise and build things together – what has been the strength of our society. That is why Finland needs a party that is curious and develops solutions, that does not dig itself into trenches or fall into populism. Finland needs a strong SFP,” said Adlercreutz.

In her keynote speech, Renew Europe Vice-Chair Anna-Maja Henriksson MEP emphasised the need to renew the EU where it is needed most, such as introducing qualified majority in the Council of the EU on issues regarding foreign and security policy.

“Before the EU elections, I and SFP promised to work to make decision-making in the EU more efficient. I call for courage from the Commission and the member states to use all the possibilities that Article 7 provides, and if nothing else helps, also to withdraw the voting rights of countries that endanger the future of Ukraine and, by extension, the future of Europe. We cannot let Putin's friends in Hungary or Slovakia decide,” said Henriksson.

During the party Congress, SFP members adopted a new party programme developed over the past few years with a view to the parliamentary elections in 2027.

SFP members elected Sandra Bergqvist, Cecilia Ehrnrooth and Ramieza Mahdi as SFP vice-chairs.
