“The Centre is Europe’s power and we are determined to shape it," proclaimed President Valérie Hayer after re-election yesterday evening by the Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament.

Hayer steps forward with a fresh mandate to champion a stronger Europe that addresses the cost of living, defends its freedoms and takes control of its future, saying:

“I am honoured by the trust my colleagues have placed in me and determined to match that trust with action. Now, delivering requires a strong and reliable majority at Europe’s centre. Europe cannot be built with those who want to tear it apart.
We need a detailed coalition agreement with clear priorities and commitments that all partners uphold. We will not support any candidate for Parliament’s presidency without that agreement. Europe’s political direction  for the coming years must be settled before its top jobs.’’

The Group leader warns that people do believe in Europe but doubt its ability to act for them. Liberals must close that gap between belief and delivery, with a Europe that protects their security, improves their living standards and gives them confidence in the future.

Hayer highlights the fundamental ambition to grow the liberal and democratic family across Europe. She is deeply convinced that the liberal, centrist vision can win hearts, change minds and bring a new generation into politics.

The President wants to ease the pressures people face every day. Families struggling with energy bills, housing costs and food prices need answers they can see in their household budgets. A more competitive Europe must provide better jobs, greater opportunities and a more affordable life.

"We will be radically pro-European, demanding a Europe that acts with the urgency and ambition its citizens deserve. The United States, China and Russia cannot be allowed to decide our future. We need to build a Europe with the means to defend itself, stand with Ukraine and protect its interests without depending on the goodwill of others,” concluded Hayer.
