On 6 September, ALDE Party member VVD hosted a party Congress focusing on the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Netherlands scheduled on 29 October.
VVD members adopted the election programme, entitled “Stronger from the storm” and consisting of five key missions: a growing economy, better wages and homes for workers, security investments, a free and safe Netherlands and a small and efficient Dutch government.
“These are not stopgap measures or half measures. They are necessary choices that we will implement to tackle today's challenges, so that we can make the Netherlands safer, freer and more prosperous. VVD looks to the future with optimism, if we opt for liberal solutions now,” says the programme.
Introducing VVD’s future vision, party leader Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius delivered a keynote speech underlining the Netherlands’ urge for stability at a crucial political crossroads.
“We in the VVD are very clear: we want a stable centre-right government with competent politicians who will make a difference. On 29 October, this will be the choice. Are we going to choose to invest in our prosperity, security and freedom? Or are we going to go for the destructive policies of the extremes? That is what is at stake. This is not a pipe dream, it is possible, and we will do our best to convince voters of this in the coming period,” said Yeşilgöz-Zegerius.
Yeşilgöz-Zegerius leads VVD’s list of candidates for the election, followed by current Minister of Finance Eelco Heinen, Minister of Defence Ruben Brekelmans, Minister of Economic Affairs Vincent Karremans and Member of Parliament Eric van der Burg.
