EUCO reaches a deal after tough negotiations

After almost a record-long European Council meeting, Europe's heads of state have agreed on the recovery package and the next Multiannual Financial Framework. ALDE President Hans van Baalen congratulated Charles Michel for heading the tough negotiations and highlighted the importance of the meeting.

The European Court of Justice has decided to invalidate the Privacy Shield, the scheme under which the European Commission gives permission for the transfer of personal data by companies to the United States.

Renew Europe proposes EU mechanism on rule of law

On 13 July, Renew Europe Vice-President Michal Šimečka presented his initial report to create an EU Mechanism on Democracy, the Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights. The report builds on a former resolution which calls the Commission develop common rule of law standards in a single mechanism.

Violence against women has worryingly increased during the COVID-19 lockdown measures. According to WHO, emergency services across Europe have recorded a rise of up to 60% in calls from victims of domestic violence during confinement. Renew Europe says enough!
