Hungarian ALDE Party member Momentum Mozgalom organised, together with other opposition forces, primary elections for the 2022 parliamentary elections from 18-28 September.
It was the first time in the country’s history, and Momentum secured candidates in 15 out of 108 electoral districts. They will represent the unified opposition of Momentum, Social Democrats, Greens, Green-Left, Nationalists and Socialists.
More than 600,000 people participated in the pre-elections that were open to anyone above the age of 17. Voters were able to elect their Prime Minister and local candidates through on-site and online voting.
Since no candidate got the majority on this first round, the candidate for Prime Minister will be determined in a second round of voting which will take place during the week of 4-9 October.
The Hungarian parliamentary election will be organised in April 2022.
