ALDE Party acting co-President Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP led a delegation of liberals to the Srebrenica Memorial Centre at Potočari, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where they laid a wreath and held a minute’s silence to pay tribute to all the victims of the Srebrenica genocide.
"We must never forget what happened in Srebrenica, and on behalf of all European liberals I wanted to come here today to pay tribute to those who died and those who lost their lives,” he said.
"Srebrenica is a painful reminder of what extreme nationalism can lead to and we must all continue to work to achieve a Europe in which we see nationality, religion and diversity as part of our European DNA making us stronger."
Roman Jakič, the President of the LIBSEEN, said: "those who do not understand what the world courts have ruled and confirmed that this genocide took place, should come to Srebrenica and hear testimonies and look recordings and it will be clear to them that there was indeed genocide against Bosniak men and boys."
The delegation also featured Antoaneta Asenova-Bihlmayer, the President of LYMEC, Emil Kirjas, Vice President of Liberal International, as well as Andrew Burgess of the ALDE Secretariat and Valentin Tonchev, Parliamentary Assistant to Ilhan Kyuchyuk.
