ALDE Party co-President leads a liberal delegation to Ukraine

European liberal leaders led by ALDE Party co-President Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP travelled to Ukraine to strengthen cooperation with the Ukrainian Government, to better assist reconstruction and war efforts and the country’s integration within the EU.

On 30-31 August, ALDE Party co-President Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP travelled to Ukraine with Iulian Bulai, President of the ALDE Party delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE); Sabina Ćudić, Member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina parliament; Edin Forto, Prime Minister at Government of Sarajevo Canton; Roman Jakič, President of LIBSEEN; Emil Kirjas, Vice-President of Liberal International; Dan-Aria Sucuri, President of the European Liberal Youth (LYMEC) and Monika Zajkova; Member of the Parliament of North Macedonia and the OSCE Political Assembly.

This liberal delegation met with key Ukranian leaders such as Yevhen Perebyinis, Deputy Foreign Minister, Olexander Polischuk, Deputy Minister of Defense, Oleksandr Kornienko, First Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and Kira Rudik, ALDE Party Vice President and member of the Ukrainian Parliament, among others.

During the meetings with Deputy Foreign Minister, Deputy Defense Minister and at the Ukrainian Parliament the delegation of ALDE Party expressed its full solidarity and support with the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom and democracy,” stated Kyuchyuk.

At the meeting with ALDE Party, we talked about unprecedented solidarity with Ukraine. No war fatigue, which is a topic that Russia is unsuccessfully chasing. We are working with European leaders to integrate Ukraine into the EU and mainstream the Crimean platform,” declared Kornienko.

Happy to welcome the ALDE Party delegation in Kyiv! ALDE family came up to support us on day 1 of the invasion and have not stopped since then. Stronger together,” expressed Rudik.

They also attended two sessions of the Ukrainian Parliament where they applauded the work of the parliamentarians to keep up democracy during the war and organising the defence of the country.

The mission ended with a visit to the cities of Hostomel and Irpin, devastated by the Russian attacks.

From the first moment of the invasion, European liberals have stood with Ukraine pushing for governments to assist Ukrainians sending them all kinds of aid, to welcome refugees and integrate them within the countries of arrival and to accelerate the country’s integration within the EU, among many other things.
