ALDE Party Statement on recent European Parliament’s cyberattack and Russian strikes on Ukraine

Europe’s liberals strongly condemn Putin’s cyberattack on the European Parliament, the largest transnational assembly, as well as today’s large-scale missile attacks against Ukraine that have cost lives of innocent citizens.

We remain alert to any developments and support each other in countering the full spectrum of cyber threats, regardless of where they come from. Our thoughts are with the victims of today’s missile attacks.

ALDE Party co-Presidents Senator Timmy Dooley and Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP said:

“Today’s missile attacks and cyberattack against Europe’s house of democracy are further proof that Putin is running out of options in the battlefield and has to resort to hybrid warfare and senseless violence. It is no coincidence that the European Parliament website is targeted right after the vote to declare the Russian state a terrorist state, and that innocent citizens in Ukraine need to, once again, fear for their lives. Our support for the people of Ukraine remains undeterred.”
