Earlier this month, ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen was appointed by the Dutch government to the ‘Eminent Persons Group on the European Economy’ which advises the country’s politics on the EU economy as well as budgetary, fiscal and monetary policies. President van Baalen takes on this role in private capacity.
President van Baalen has also reacted to the news of the recent resignation of the Dutch government as a consequence of the escalating scandal in which tax officials wrongly accused parents of fraud. The government led by Prime Minister Mark Rutte continues in the caretaker capacity until the upcoming parliamentary elections on 17 March. President van Baalen underlines that this has no effect on the country’s fight against COVID-19 or its EU position.

🇳🇱 NL Cabinet resigns over child welfare scandal. Parents prosecuted for minor mistakes by Tax Authorities. Rutte Cabinet stays on as caretaker until new Cabinet has been formed after the elections on 17 March. Fight against Covid and EU position not affected. @ALDEParty
