Last Sunday 11 October, the alliance consisting of ALDE Party members Kustība "Par!" and Latvijas Attīstībai and third partner Izaugsme gathered 40 party members for their electoral congress in the run up to the country’s municipal elections taking place in 2021.
The cooperation between the parties has proved to be successful in the past and it has become an influential force in Latvian politics. Last August, Mārtiņš Staķis, one of the founders of Kustība "Par!", was elected Mayor of Riga. Additionally, the alliance has 13 representatives in the Latvian parliament and three Ministers in the coalition government with Artis Pabriks as Minister of Defence, Ilze Viņķele as Minister of Health and Juris Pūce as Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development.
During their congress, the alliance proposed its conceptual vision for next year’s municipal elections. This text outlines an open, green, and modern Latvia with a strong focus on human capital and living conditions in the countryside.
Party officials say that they are driven by “the desire is to cooperate rather than to confront.” Education, Health and Creativity will be at the center of the Alliance’s story in the next year’s local elections.
