Can optimism still cut through in an age dominated by outrage, algorithms and political polarisation? That is the question at the heart of the latest episode of UNFILTERED: The Liberal Take, ALDE Party’s podcast exploring today's biggest political debates.

Hosted by Anna from the ALDE Party Secretariat, the episode welcomes Felix Klos of D66 to discuss why the party chose to campaign on hope at a time when many parties across Europe are turning towards fear and negativity.

The conversation explores how D66 built a movement around optimism, who responded most strongly to that message, and why refusing to imitate populist rhetoric can still be an advantage.

The episode also examines one of the biggest communication challenges facing liberal parties today: how to make hopeful politics cut through social media algorithms that increasingly reward outrage and division.

The episode then looks at how that kind of messaging actually lands, and what liberal parties need to change if they want to be heard in today’s political environment which can be dominated by fear and outrage.

Hear from the host:

Anna’s take... “What I took from this conversation is that hope is not naïve. It is a political choice, and in today’s climate it can be one of the most courageous messages liberals can offer. Felix shows that optimism can still cut through when it is rooted in people’s real concerns and paired with a clear vision for change.”

The latest episode is available now on YouTube and all major podcast platforms.
