On 12 April, the European Commission and the European Committee of the Regions launched a new network aimed at boosting local engagement in EU policy.
The EU Councillors Network brings together local and regional elected representatives who are committed to informing citizens about EU policies and contributing to the democratic debate at local and regional level.
The initiative, already consisting of 3,000 participants, will empower municipal and regional councillors, presidents and mayors to act as a bridge between EU institutions and the communities they represent.
Renew Europe CoR President François Decoster will play a key role as the CoR’s Special Representative, coordinating the Network’s activities and ensuring that local representatives have a voice in EU policymaking.
Membership of the network is open to any local or regional elected politician from across the EU. As an EU councillor belonging the Renew Europe family, benefits could include the opportunity to participate in Renew Europe CoR Group Meetings and external events, as well the CoR plenary sessions.
Councillors from across the EU can now register via the Network’s new dedicated platform, where they will find resources, opportunities for exchange, and tools to communicate about the EU in their local contexts.
