Education ministers discuss teaching shortages ahead of Council

On 12 May, Ministers from our political family discussed our shared priorities on Europe’s education challenges ahead of the Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council of the European Union (EYCS). 

Four liberal Ministers joined the meeting chaired by Brigitte van den Berg MEP (D66, NL), Renew Europe’s Vice-Coordinator for the European Parliament Committee on Culture and Education. 

Ministers discussed teacher shortages, the banning of phones and screens in school and improvements in education quality. 

Participants included: 

  • Anders Adlercreutz, Minister of Education of Finland (SFP, FI) 
  • Lotta Edholm, Minister for Schools of Sweden (Liberalerna, SE) 
  • Valérie Glatigny, Minister of Education and Further Education of Wallonia (MR, BE) 
  • Christoph Wiederkehr, Minister of Education of Austria (NEOS, AT)
