Liberal EU Affairs Ministers gathered ahead of the General Affairs Council (GAC) on 15 December to renew their commitment to Ukraine, among other priorities.
Hosted at the Liberal House, the shared home of ALDE Party and European liberal organisations, the meeting allowed Ministers to exchange views and align their priorities ahead of Council discussions.
Discussions covered key items on the Council agenda, including the future EU budget and a financing framework that meets Europe’s challenges. Ministers stressed the importance of sustainable financing for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s aggression.
At a time of heightened global uncertainty and shifting international alliances, liberal Ministers underlined that Europe must lead with confidence and be competitive on the global stage.
The meeting brought together liberal Ministers including Marie Bjerre (Venstre, DK), Thomas Byrne (Fianna Fáil, IE), Xavier Bettel (DP, LU) and Ignacy Niemczycki (Poland 2050, PL).
The meeting also marked the conclusion of the Danish Council Presidency, expertly steered by Minister Bjerre over the past six months
Liberal collaboration comes from our diverse and strong network of member parties and representatives. Ahead of the GAC, Ministers proved that cooperation delivers better results for Europe.
