No Pride without Progress: Liberals demand equal rights

European liberals celebrate Pride Month in June, but this year we are not getting complacent in the fight for equal rights.

The latest ILGA Rainbow Map reveals an uncomfortable truth: too many European countries still lag behind in providing essential legal protections for the LGBTQIA+ community.

ALDE Party is at the forefront of this fight, from campaigning against so-called “LGBT-free zones”, supporting initiates like the ACT (Against Conversion Therapy) Citizens’ Initiative and removing barriers to blood donations from gay and bisexual donors.

In 2025, this is the situation in the European Union:

  • 11 EU Member States do not have marriage equality
  • Four EU Member States don’t ban sexual orientation hate crimes
  • 19 EU Member States still allow conversion therapies

It’s beyond time for Europe to live up to its promise of freedom and equality for all citizens. We need equal rights everywhere in Europe.
