Today, energy is Europe’s Achilles heel, but it has the potential to become our superpower.

Citizens’ trust in the EU rests on Europe’s ability to deliver affordable energy prices for citizens and businesses. Access to affordable energy is also essential for European enterprises to compete and innovate, as well as boost our strategic position in the world.

European citizens and businesses across the EU are already massively investing in energy efficiency and clean energy solutions: placing solar panels on rooftops and scaling up electrified production processes in different industries.

Renew Europe calls for the systematic removal of the obstacles holding Europe back. From lengthy permitting processes and outdated regulations, to a lack of infrastructure and faltering investments in energy production, we must stop holding back initiatives.

High energy bills affect citizens, render EU companies less competitive and make us dependent on others. The EU imports 58% of its energy. The inability to fully produce our own energy lies at the root of Europe’s political, economic and geopolitical crises.

High energy costs are one of the biggest crises Europe faces today and requires a unified response. Clean energy is a massive opportunity for Europe and a source of economic growth and security. Renew Europe will work at EU level to strengthen the Energy Union to lower energy bills while delivering on climate targets.

An integrated, European energy sector can make clean and more affordable energy accessible for everyone.
