On 24 November, ALDE Party member Centerpartiet in Sweden confirmed the electoral list for the European elections in 2024, with Emma Wiesner MEP topping the list of candidates.
Wiesner has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2021, when she became Sweden’s youngest MEP at just 28 years of age.
Abir al-Sahlani MEP, Centerpartiet’s other representative in the European Parliament, will follow Wiesner as number two on the list.
Svante Linusson, a mathematics professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, completes the top three.
The full list of candidates was confirmed by Centerpartiet’s central board of trustees following an earlier nomination by party members.
“I am really looking forward to next year's election campaign and, together with the team that Centerpartiet has now chosen, to pursue a policy for a greener, safer and freer EU. It is needed now more than ever,” said party leader Muharrem Demirok.
“This is a strong trio where the candidates together have different important perspectives and experiences and I feel very confident that they can represent all of Sweden in the EU,” said Jan Andersson, chair of Centerpartiet’s nomination committee.
The European elections are set to take place from 6-9 June 2024 in all European Union member states.
