Decoster represents CoR at Delors memorial

Renew Europe CoR President François Decoster represented the European Committee of the Regions at the memorial for Jacques Delors in Paris on 5 January.

Jacques Delors was the eighth President of the European Commission between 1985 and 1995 and one of the most influential and visionary leaders in European politics.

Under his tenure, the Single Market, the Economic and Monetary Union and the European Committee of the Regions were established.

The building hosting the Committee of the Regions’ headquarters in Brussels is named after him to honour his legacy.

“Jacques Delors’ legacy is immense and will continue to inspire us,” said Decoster, Mayor of Saint-Omer, France.

“His career as a trade unionist, and perhaps also his brief term as mayor, helped shape a method that resonates well with the members of the Committee of the Regions, and which he developed throughout his commitment to Europe: to advance Europe in the service of Europeans through the construction of concerted decisions, born of exchange and based on unifying compromises.”

“A certain idea of our Europe, so modern and so necessary in the face of the challenges of today and tomorrow.”
