On Sunday 8 July, our member party in Luxembourg, Demokratesch Partei (DP), held its annual Congress in preparation of the next general elections in October 2018.
The Liberal Luxembourgish Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, addressed the crowd: "I would be shocked if candidates for the parliamentary elections would relate with national socialism. DP is against such populists and demagogues. We have the responsibility to hold liberal values here in this country."
In his concluding remarks, he expressed his motivation to get the campaign started: "I am motivated and very looking forward to go out for the election campaign and talk to people. Let's do everything we can together to win in the next elections for the country's interests!"
.@Xavier_Bettel: Ech si motivéiert a brennen drop, fir an d'Wahlcampagne eraus ze goen a mat de Leit ze schwätzen. Loosst eis alles zesumme maachen, fir déi nächst Wahlen am Interêt vum Land ze gewannen. #dp2018 #Kongress

A few days before the Congress, DP had launched its electoral spot with one key message: "Future in Luxembourg: We are ready!"
In her address, DP's party leader Corinne Cahen emphasised why her party's values are what Luxembourgish people need: "Demokratesch Partei represents a policy fit for the 21st century; it makes people independendent, free and strong. DP's policy is one that looks forward. We want to change whatever needs to be changed, and develop what works well. We are preparing our country for the future."
.@CorinneCahen: D'Politik vun der @dp_lu ass eng, déi no vir kuckt. Mir änneren dat, wat muss geännert ginn. A mir entwéckelen dat weider, wat gutt leeft. Et ass esou, wéi mir onst Land op d'Zukunft preparéieren. #dp2018 #Kongress
