Farrugia is the new leader of Partit Demokratiku

Dr Godfrey Farrugia has been elected as the new leader of Partit Demokratiku, ALDE Party member party in Malta. Dr Farrugia, one of the party’s two Members of Parliament and who was present at the founding of the party in 2016, was the sole candidate to the position.

The former leader, Dr Anthony Buttigieg, stepped back from the leadership after being nominated as the party's lead candidate for MEP for the elections to the European Parliament in May 2019.

Writing on Facebook he congratulated Dr Farrugia: “I congratulate and wish Godfrey all the best in his new role of Partit Demokratiku Leader. He has proven himself to be tireless and dedicated both as an MP for PD and its Secretary-General. PD can only grow stronger under his leadership. I know it will.

In a statement, Partit Demokratiku affirms its priority remains for an educated, outward looking, open European society where active participation replaces exclusion. They pledge to reinstate honesty and responsibility into the heart of Maltese politics and give a stronger voice to citizens who believe that our nation deserves to be governed in a way that makes us proud and safeguards a dignified lifestyle for the generations of today and tomorrow.
