On 10 February, ALDE Party member Istarski Demokratski Sabor (IDS) in Croatia held a party Congress in Poreč, Croatia.
IDS president Dalibor Paus addressed members in a keynote speech which set out the party’s priorities, including the decentralisation of Croatia and a bigger degree of independence over Istria’s own health care, education and social policies.
“Through our work, we have always raised the level of political culture in Croatia and shown that we know how to get the most out of this highly centralised management system. In all the things we can influence, we have gone further than others, but we want more,” said Paus.
Speaking about upcoming elections in Croatia and the European Union, Paus emphasised that "the goal of IDS is to be everywhere where decisions are made that affect the lives of our people and our region".
The event marked IDS’ 34th anniversary of political activity and gathered guests from other liberal political parties such as Davor Nađi, leader of ALDE Party member FOKUS in Croatia, who congratulated IDS for its achievements "from the local committees to the European Parliament".
“Parties like Fokus look up to IDS in many ways and learn from IDS. There are better examples and better policies than the ruling policy in Croatia, there is a better Croatia and we will show that in the upcoming election,” said Nađi.
