ALDE Party Vice President Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP has called for the European Union to devote more attention to the full integration of the Western Balkans.
Speaking during the exchange of views in the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the European Parliament with Ekaterina Zaharieva, Deputy Prime Minister for Judicial Reform and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, he said: "I appreciate the fact that the topic of the Western Balkans is at a higher level on the European agenda. But it is not enough to solve the problems of the region. The six countries need systematic political and financial support, but in order to make real progress they need a clear road map. It could be drafted during the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the EU and the deadline of 2025 that was suggested by the European Commission is a good final point.”
“Europe should not worry about the Western Balkans, but for the Western Balkans. And we liberals have always been in support of the full integration of the region. Only with the integration of the region will we be able to say that we have completed the project of Europe as a free area of ethno-nationalism.
During the day, Ilhan Kyuchyuk also met with Juliana Nikolova, Member of the Parliament of Macedonia from LDP, and Islam Pacolli, Member of the Parliament of Kosovo from AKR, both ALDE party members where they had the chance to discuss the European perspective of the region.
