Kustība “Par!” picks Ukraine-born EU lead candidate

On 5 February, ALDE Party member Kustība “Par!” in Latvia announced Ivanna Volochiy will be the party’s lead candidate for the European elections in June. Volochiy, originally from Ukraine, also holds Belgian citizenship and currently works with Renew Europe Group as Community Manager, where she contributes to the Parliamentary Contact Group on Ukraine.

Fianna Fáil confirm EU lead candidates

Fianna Fáil confirmed Barry Andrews MEP, Barry Cowen TD and Billy Kelleher MEP as the party’s lead candidates for the three Irish constituencies ahead of the European elections in June. Andrews will represent the Dublin constituency, Cowen will contest the election in the Midlands-North-West and Kelleher will stand for re-election in Ireland South.

Slovak liberals announce EU lead candidate

ALDE Party member Progresívne Slovensko in Slovakia confirmed Ľudovít Ódor will be the party’s lead candidate for the European elections in June. Ódor served as Slovakia’s technocratic Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior in 2023, before the snap parliamentary elections which saw PS obtain its best-ever result with 18% of the popular vote.

Liberal Movement confirms EP lead candidate

On 4 February, Liberalų sąjūdįs members elected party vice-chair Eugenijus Gentvilas MP, a member of the Lithuanian Parliament since 2012, as the party’s lead candidate for the European elections in June. He is followed by Petras Auštrevičius MEP, the party’s current representative in the European Parliament since 2014 and former ALDE Party Vice-President.

Danish liberals form EU election alliance

ALDE Party members Venstre and Radikale Venstre in Denmark have joined forces to form an electoral alliance with the Moderates for the European elections in June. The three parties join forces to unite Denmark’s liberal and pro-European voices against the rise of extremists, but will still present individual electoral lists and manifestos.

Alliance Party return to Northern Ireland Executive

On 3 February, a new power-sharing coalition government took office in Northern Ireland two years after the last Assembly elections. The Alliance Party returned to the Northern Ireland Executive with two Ministers, following on from its best-ever election result in 2022, when the party made historic gains by receiving 13.5% of the popular vote.

MR launch electoral programme at party Congress

On 4 February, Mouvement Réformateur (MR) launched the electoral programme for the upcoming federal, local and European elections due to be held in Belgium this year. Over 1,500 members attended the party Congress held in the town of Marche-en-Famenne, Belgium, to highlight MR's commitment to farmers and agricultural communities.
