Liberal Movement in Lithuania elects new chair

On 21 September, Liberal Movement (Liberalų sąjūdis) – one of the ALDE Party member parties in Lithuania – held a party congress during which a new chair was elected to lead the party’s work for the coming two years.

Winning with 744 votes against 187, new chair Viktorija Čmilyté-Nielsen thanked the party members for their confidence and emphasized the importance of the day as a new starting point for the party.

“At the beginning of my career as a politician, I realised that there were many possible turns. [...] It was the atmosphere of freedom and mutual trust that encouraged me to join the Liberals. I am convinced that this is a tremendous value that we have been able to maintain so far, regardless of the circumstances,” she commented after the election and continued:

“Together, we have demonstrated our determination to move forward towards common goals. So, let us be worthy of our decisions.”

The next elections in Lithuania will be the parliamentary elections in October 2020.
