On 10 March, Portugal held snap legislative elections to elect all 230 members of the Assembly of the Republic.
ALDE Party member Iniciativa Liberal (IL) achieved its best-ever result in national elections with 5.1% of the popular vote, continuing the positive trend started in 2022.
Congratulations to @LiberalPT on their election success today!

Now, let’s channel this momentum and focus on the upcoming European elections. 🇵🇹🇪🇺 https://t.co/JYPyE3YBHY
The result allows IL to retain its eight seats in the Assembly and cement its place as the fourth strongest political force in the country.
Party leader Rui Rocha was re-elected in his home constituency of Braga, one of six IL members to retain their seat in Parliament, while Mariana Leitão (Lisbon) and Mário Amorim Lopes (Aveiro) won two new representatives for the party.
IL’s campaign focused around tackling economic stagnation, the soaring cost-of-living crisis and the "brain drain" of young people moving to other countries.
In January, IL announced former leader João Cotrim de Figueiredo will be the party’s lead candidate for the European elections due to take place in Portugal on 6-9 June, as citizens will head to the polls to elect 21 MEPs.
