According to the preliminary results with all ballots counted, her PAS party has received 52.8% of the vote and will have an absolute majority in the next Parliament. The opposition led by former President Igor Dodon and former President Vladimir Voronin got 27% of the vote.
President Sandu has pledged that her party will build closer ties with the EU and fight corruption. The snap elections were called after two failed attempts to form a government earlier this year.
Dacian Cioloş MEP (USRPlus, Romania), the leader of the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament, also welcomed the result: "I stand by the newly elected Parliament in the implementation of promised legislation and reforms. Moldova can count on the EU’s full support for building better living standards and improving democracy for its citizens. Today's vote gives us great hope that the Republic of Moldova is a success story for Europe."
