On 24 August, ALDE Party hosted the third event of its Manifesto town hall series in Porto, Portugal. The event was attended by more than 100 citizens, with a lively conversation around the challenges that transport, mobility and freedom of movement pose to our society.
During the town hall, participants asked questions and shared their ideas on how governments can efficiently use public funding to invest in their transport networks, how they can fairly tackle the cost of services with their citizens and how the Interrail and Erasmus programmes can serve as inspiration for similar Europe-wide projects.

Moreover, participants were keen to discuss the impact of mobility on sectors such as culture, business and housing, as well as on specific demographic groups such as the ageing population and commuters in order to create better conditions for citizens to stay and work in their country.
Guests were able to exchange with Iniciativa Liberal President Rui Rocha, ALDE Party Vice-President Eva Kjer Hansen, Iniciativa Liberal’s Porto coordinator Albino Ramos and Professor of Engineering at the University of Porto Álvaro Costa.
The meeting in Porto was the third of ALDE Party’s town halls organised to hear citizens’ thoughts and concerns ahead of the European elections in 2024, following similar events in Denmark and Bulgaria. The outcome of these discussions will feed into the ALDE Party Manifesto drafting process.
