On 24 February, ALDE Party member Mouvement Réformateur in Belgium announced Sophie Wilmès will be their lead candidate for the European elections in June.
Wilmès served as Belgium’s Prime Minister from 2019 to 2020 and Foreign Minister between 2020 and 2022, becoming the first woman to hold both positions.
“Europe shapes our lives. Given the crucial questions that arise, I want to help ensure that we take the right direction: that of a better future. This is my commitment as head of the list,” said Wilmès.

Valérie Glatigny, Wallonia’s former higher education minister currently working within Renew Europe in the European Parliament, will be the party’s lead candidate for the federal elections.
“I’m honoured to lead MR’s federal list in view of the elections on 9 June. Our campaign will be that of a team that listens to citizens, respectful of our opponents, keen to find concrete solutions,” she said.
